Graduate Certificate in Ecological & Environmental Informatics

Enhance your graduate degree with a certificate in Ecological & Environmental Informatics!

As human activities transform our land, atmosphere, and oceans, there is an increasing need to utilize large and disparate data sets to predict how ecosystems will respond to and influence future environmental change. The Graduate Certificate in Ecological & Environmental Informatics (EEI) provides students enrolled in graduate programs across NAU’s campus with the informatics and data science skills to leverage the data that are accumulating about the Earth’s natural and managed ecosystems to answer scientific questions, enhancing their research and career paths.

Who is eligible?

Current NAU graduate students enrolled in a STEM-related program are eligible to enhance their degree with an EEI certificate.

EEI Certificate Requirements

The EEI graduate certificate program requires 13-14 units and aims to train students to:

  • Identify, explain, and synthesize fundamental concepts of modern statistical methods, computing techniques, and modeling approaches;
  • Apply modern methods and techniques to critical problems in ecological and environmental informatics;
  • Compose and engage in highly effective written and oral communication, by focusing on key 21st century “soft skills” (e.g., science communication, collaboration, professional development
