Student receives grants for South Africa field work

Ecoinformatics student Andrew Abraham received a grant from the Tswalu Foundation in South Africa ($2000) along with a scholarship from NAU ($1000) to conduct field work at the Tswalu Kalahari Game Reserve in South Africa. Andrew travelled to Tswalu Kalahari Game Reserve in June 2019 to investigate how the removal of large game animals from game reserves can constitute a significant loss of ecologically important nutrients over time. Working with the wildlife management team, he quantified the importance of megacarnivore species such as lion and hyena in retaining nutrients locally via herbivore population control and cadaver digestion.
