    Mostafa Javadian, NAU

    11:30 am-12:30 pm
    March 4, 2024

Abstract : Think a healthy plant is just a vibrant green? Think again! While we often judge a plant’s health solely by its verdant facade, a hidden symphony plays beneath the surface, a language of temperature variations that reveals their true well-being. This seminar invites you to embark on a captivating journey beyond the visible spectrum, exploring the fascinating world of thermal imaging. Imagine this technology as a plant whisperer, translating subtle shifts in temperature into a visual language that unveils the hidden dynamics of vegetation, from individual leaves to sprawling fields. We’ll delve into the secret language of plants, deciphering how they communicate their health, stress levels, and water needs through these thermal variations.

Bio: Mostafa Javadian is a postdoctoral scientist in Richardson’s lab at the Center for Ecosystem Science and Society at Northern Arizona University. His research focuses on leaf energy balance modeling using thermal infrared imagery. Previously, he was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Arizona, specializing in remote sensing of the environment with an emphasis on detecting vegetation water stress. Mostafa earned his undergraduate degree in civil engineering before pursuing a Master’s degree in water resources management and engineering in Iran. He then earned his Ph.D. in hydrology and remote sensing from the University of Arizona in May 2022, with a focus on drylands water stress dynamics. His work contributes to advancing our understanding of ecosystem health and resilience through innovative remote sensing techniques at multiple scales.
