Christopher Doughty, a SICCS assistant professor, worked with an international team of scientists who found that forest elephants enhance carbon stocks in the Congo. The flip side of that is that loss of these species is predicted to increase carbon loss to the atmosphere. The paper was published in Nature Geoscience , and was featured in the New York Times.
