Leaf Development Affects Mid-Infrared Reflectance Spectra

Leaf structure, anatomy, and biochemical composition affect how leaves interact with different wavelengths of light. In a study published in New Phytologist, Dr. Andrew Richardson and others found that the reflectance of long-wave radiation increases as newly-expanded deciduous leaves mature in spring. The associated decrease in leaf emissivity was as large as previously-reported variation in emissivity across species. These changes You can read the study here.
